Class of 2014
South Grand Prairie High School
Jasmine is a 10th grader at South Grand Prairie High School. She is also, daughter to Jason Jermane Sasser a standout basketball player who played collegiately for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He played in the NBA from 1997 to 1999. Jasmine is truly an up and coming muti-sport athlete that will fallow in her fathers footsteps. She is scholar-athlete who has steadily maintained an “A/B†average in all of her AP classes, while participating in two sports. She is a member of the SGP Varsity Volleyball Team serving as the middle blocker, and a member of the SGP Varsity Basketball Team playing the position of power forward.
Jasmine burst on the high school scene last season lettering in Volleybal and Basketball not as a true freshmen, but as an 8th grader! Her parents made the decision to advance Sasser early in her in life and that decision makes her one of the few athletes in the country to letter in two sports at such a young age.
Although her father is a raving basketball fan, and would love to see her continue the Sasser tradition of playing college baketball, he has allowed young Sasser to explore her options outide of school sports.
Jasmine will enter into her second season of club volleyball playing for youth coaching legend Clarence Nevels. Coach Nevels was quoted last season saying, " "Jaz" as he calls her, is a special breed of athlete, and with the right committment and skills training the sky is the limit!" Allowing Jasmine to play club volleyball with newly formed 360 Volleyball Club was an easy decision for the Sasser family. The relationship the Sasser's parents made with Head Coach Clarence Nevels was more of a family bond than anything. "We went to a local club tryout and didn't feel like they needed or wanted Jasmine, so we felt great about supporting Coach Clarence and the new 360 club, said Jason." Jasmine and her teammates on the 360 Volleyball Club managed to take home a gold medal at the 2011 Muzuno Volleyfest Tournament .
